position of autoshape when viewed in browser is different

Auteur: Anonymous

Callouts use VML graphics and a sort of absolute positioning (absolutely
positioned with respect to the top left of the page, whereas normal
absolute positioning is with respect to the objects positioned
container). The callout will ALWAYS be in the same place in the page,
however there is no guarantee that anything else in the page will stay
still. Additionally, browsers other than Internet Explorer may not
render the callout anyway.
See http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/VML-graphics.htm for reasons
why VML should be avoided in web sites.

The only way you can place the callout and object together, and
guarantee to keep them together, is to make them the same graphic.

How can I have Media Player display controls and open a media as soon as the

Are there tips and tricks on how to spead up the playing.

Frontpage 2000 publishing error & time outs

Switching to another version of FrontPage or to EW will not make any
difference. In my opinion you have some very large webs, which may have
to be split even further than you have. The largest size does depend on
the network conditions and the hardware involved. The issue is not such
the size of the web in bytes (though this does come into the equation),
as the number of files and links within the web.

Although my replies are related to publishing, the same principles apply
to live editing.

I once (1999) had similar problems with a website that totalled 2Mbytes,
including images etc. Splitting this into 5 (400K each) subwebs enabled
publishing at 5am on Sunday mornings when the world was asleep.
Upgrading the server cured all problems.

One way to check whether the problem lies at the server, and to
establish a limit to the size of a web, is to create a new subweb and
publish/edit it. Start with low content (say 25,000KB) and build up
until problems occur. The content can be copied from an existing web.

Upgrading to Expression Web will not make much of a difference. It
sounds like your server is too busy for your site while using FrontPage
extensions. Removing the extensions will make a difference - but you
not be able to edit live as it sounds like you are now.

If your home page is typical of your other pages then you will have very
few problems using Expression Web (EW). Make a back up of the site
(always a good thing) then open it in Expression Web - converted. There
will be a few things that need changing, but there is no need to rush
into it.

When you upgrade I would change the shared borders to a Dynamic Web
Template (available in FP2003 and EW) - this may ease the load on the
server when updating or publishing. This can be done one page at a time
- again, no need to change everything all at once.

How large are the root web and subwebs? One possible cause of your
symptoms is the size of the individual webs that make up your site is
too large for the server hardware, network and/or your own PC. You may
need to split the web into even more subwebs. Each subweb is treated as
an individual website by the FrontPage extensions, so the server is able
to handle lots of small subwebs better than a few large webs.

Also, download FP Cleaner fromhttp://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htmandrun the routines that
delete the hidden web cache files and temporary files. This may make a
difference.

using Frontpage 2000. website urlwww.gasolinealleyantiques.comifI
make a few changes and republish, get time out message; server not
found; server unexpectedly closed, etc. etc. etc. downloaded FP
Cleaner. no improvement. this has been going on for almost a year,
and getting worse. web host said my problem. finally, they said
problem with server, switching to Plesk. tried it today with new
server, same problems. my website is large, we make changes on the
main web and the sub webs almost daily. what used to be a few minute
job, can now take an hour each time. have DSL access. thinking of
redoing website in Expression Web or Dreamweaver, but will be a
monster task converting. do not want to start any new projects if
this can be fixed. any help or suggestions? 1) does this sound like
a glitch on my end or the server; 2) any possibly remedies; 3) do not
have many bells or whistles on site, just lots of simple text and
photos - leave it as is, got to Expression Web, or Dreamweaver?? any
help or suggestions? thanks! Keith

Thank you for you input. as stated, used FP Cleaner - no
improvement. root web is 274,535KB; sub webs are respectively (KB):
59504; 89422; 89683; 185043; 117807; and 177984. have had trouble
uploading each and every one of the subwebs. my front page is one of
the fanciest, all others are quick and simple, some on the KIT subweb
are in TABLE format. Host says not their problem. am leaning toward
getting Expression Web and slowly switching as you have also
suggested. (or, would it be best to upgrade to Frontpage 2003 - work
out the bugs and THEN switch to Expression Web??) BUT, do not want to
start a new process, until after I figure out if I need to switch web
hosts or not. have been with needa.com for 10 years, and everything
was great in the past. do you feel the problem is on the server side,
or possibly a glitch in my program (as my host says) or what? further
comments appreciated. thank you. Keith

Thank you very much for your comments and input. much appreciated.
best, Keith
